Democrats, stop serving tepid tea, being deficit hawks, shying away from the effective, but insufficient economic stimulus, and affordable health care for all, forgetting why you're Democrats.

We should be alarmed by the growing and blithe use of the term “jobless recovery.”  Indeed, let’s look right under the surface to see what it means:

Mr. President, we need a public works program that puts people back on a payroll doing the vital work of rebuilding America’s infrastructure.  The details are considerable, and from a standpoint of public policy it’s no easy fix, but for starters let’s look into matching our millions of unemployed with some of the nation’s real needs.

I bet you wake up in the morning, enjoy your favorite breakfast of cereal and coffee, and head off to work –with the relative certainty that you will return home in the evening. However, on April 5th, 29 Americans woke up and left for work just like any other day, but never returned to their families because they were killed by an explosion at Massey Energy’s Upper Big Branch Mine in West Virginia.

I want to take a break from my normal “Crazy Stuff Republicans Do” posts to bring you a crazy thing that a Republican has done.  Seriously though, these posts have been about Senatorial candidates and since my home state of Virginia does not have a Senate election this year, I didn’t expect to write anything about the Old Dominion.  Our attorney general apparently disagreed with that plan.

As we all know, the structure of family today is completely different from the 1960’s. Women have made a huge impact in the job market, making up more than half of the workplace. But, according to a report by Women’s Voices. Women Vote, nearly half of women are unmarried and will at one point be the sole supporter of their household. Women are our mothers, family members, and caregivers – the gender based job discrimination they face where women are paid lower wages and lack economic security for their families must end now.
